Fun Stuff

As I have no exciting pictures of electronics to show you today I will instead amuse you with some fun links. The first of which is an elevator floor that has been painted to look as if their is no floor, just an empty elevator shaft below. It's a pretty sweet idea and if I had an elevator I would defiantly do the same.

The second link is a YouTube video. It's a quick add against DRM copy protection and why it is retarded. Yeah, its not very profound but gets the point across that DRM is retarded and we shouldn't put up with it.

I will now take some time to rant about Bluetooth technology. I thought Bluetooth was a dumb idea when I first heard of it. Why have 2 standards (wifi + BT)? Why not just make a low powered wifi chip? Almost no cameras support Bluetooth (one of the purposes it was designed for) now they are all supporting wifi because they realize that any device worth talking to has wifi or an internet connection. And come on wifi kicks BT's ass when it comes to range and speed. Really, they should just extend wifi's specs to include stuff like wireless headsets because thatís about the only thing BT is good for and its barely passable at that.

Every different Bluetooth adapter or chip has different firmware and different software to manage Bluetooth connections on computers and devices, it can hardly be called a standard. For example, I have 2 USB Bluetooth adapters used in 2 separate computers and a laptop with built in BT. My Motorola Q can use Bluetooth to connect to my laptop to transfer files or control PowerPoint but I cant wirelessly sync it. I can easily sync my Q with my desktop pc with the BT adapter that I just installed but the previous one gave me all sorts of headaches. The Bluetooth adapter in my car works sometimes at best. Why???

Cant I just buy a device with a Bluetooth icon on the box and KNOW that it will work with all the other devices? I guess I am asking too much here. I mean every wifi device is compatible with practically every other one regardless of the software or hardware. I know I donít go to the store and buy a USB device and cross my fingers and HOPE that it works with my computer and I donít have to beat it into submission. Get your shit together Bluetooth!
