I have been buying up a storm on ebay recently. I spent close to $300 on my 4ch Infinity amp and capacitor ( shipping inc. the amp retails for $300) I just picked up some tweeters that fit in the aframe of my doors, and last night I just won an auction for a dash piece for my civic. All of these items have been far below cost and well worth buying on ebay. As a result I am very pleased with the money I have saved. Due to pay pal and the general sketchiness of the internet I have lost some of the money I have saved by using ebay.
I bought the amp and cap the same morning on ebay and paid via paypal. Paypal is set up to automaticaly select my checking account to remove the money from, as I had no money in that account (like $10) it was obvious that I would choose another form of funding, namily my credit card. This requires a consious effort of selecting and confirming a seperate form of funding (the cc), varifying the details, and paying for the item. I am 100% sure I did this because I distinctly remember repeating the process twice, once for each item, both transactions within seconds of each other.
Unfortunitaly pay pal decided that they wanted to take the money from my checking instead. As a result I received 2 seperate $20 overwithdrawal charges from my bank automatically. I called paypal and they claim no responsibility because they have no way of knowing what was in my bank and clearly "It's my fault for selecting the wrong funding source" which I know is untrue. I tell the story to my bank whom says "well you authorized them to take money out of your account, we can't stop them". So now I had to put a block on my checking account so that when paypal retries to remove the money from my checking account in 3 days I don't get charged 2 additional $20 fees.
So yeah, I saved well over $100 by buying my amp and capacitor through ebay but I also lost $40 in bullshit tax. In the end I guess I still came out ahead. O and the 2 Farad capacitor I ordered was $75 shipped, it came in the mail yesterday, same as pictured, but it was a 1.4 Farad capacitor. Crutchfield charges $99+shipping for their smallest cap which is 1 Farad I paid $75 for a 1.4, I guess I really cant complain. Also considering that the total watts my system will pull (4ch amp, sub amp, pc) is <=1000 watts, and a 1.4 Farad cap can handle up to 1400 watts, it's plenty more than I need. I think that had to do with the fact that I bought the cap from someone in Brooklyn. Forgetaboutit.
